Final Project-Paper Presentation Guidelines Spring 2021

1. The assigned Final Project minimum deliveries consist of:

1.1. Paper report with details of simulation (Total: 100 pts) a. Introduction to the physical problem and motivation of project. (15 pts) b. Literature survey & problem statement & hypothesis & Objectives (15 pts) c. Governing equations of the mathematical model. (5 pts) d. Boundary conditions and initial conditions (or seed if steady state). (5 pts) e. Computational Domain and Mesh verification process and presentation of final mesh used for simulation. (10 pts) f. Present a validation of your model. For this purpose, you will need to use available experimental case with data that corresponds to same and similar base condition. You will be provided with validation data. (10 pts) g. Results (based on final mesh after adjusting turbulence model in validation step) with plots and discussion of physics (flow motion, kinematics and/or relevant aspects to the project, etc.) observed in (example): (20 pts) i. Pressure field.

ii. Velocity field (vector).

iii. Streamlines.

iv. Vorticity field (if applies and if of interest).

v. Temperature field.

vi. Contour plots at sections or surfaces of interest.

vii. X-Y plots at sections of interest.

viii. Calculation of global parameters (forces, pressure gradient, torque, etc, as it applies).

h. Conclusions and References (follow the Sample paper given). (10 pts)

1.2. Paper overall preparation, be according to format presented by instructor. (10 pts)

2. Paper Presentation. Minimum requirements: (Total:100 pts)

Presentation of paper using power point slides for 15 min + 5 min for Q&A

Rules for Evaluation of Presentation

DELIVERY: Well-rehearsed, eye-contact, clear, audible, not too fast/slow, used appropriate technical language, did not read from notes, managed questions well. (20 pts)

ORGANIZATION:

Introduction: captures attention, clearly describes problem and objectives of study. (20 pts)

Main section: Effective use of graphics, highlights predictions of study and their interpretation and discussion. (20 pts)

Conclusion: Recognition of limitations of the study; emphasis of the implications of the study. (20 pts)

VISUAL AIDS: Clear; helps to guide the presentation, important points emphasized. (10 pts)

TEAMWORK and Q & A: Coordinated transition between speakers; fair participation of team members; non-speaking members attentive and supporting in Q&A´s. Understanding questions and giving proper answers (10 pts)
